I have to let them know on Monday. The first figure they gave me was so lowball it was insane. They asked what I wanted. Well what I wanted was 13000 more than they offered, though to be honest I didn't actually expect to get that. What I was really hoping for was 8000 more than they offered, so that's the number I gave them. Answer 'Sorry, no.' OK, no problem, thank you anyway. Not five minutes later I get called back in and they made a new offer. This one was still lower than I wanted but higher than before. It was actually the lowest number I was willing to accept and is 5 more than I'm making now. They also offered a raise after six months if all goes well and some flexibility on the hours. So on Monday if I can get them to agree to a couple of other non-money related issues it looks as though I have a new job. August 1st is my two year anniversary there and I will have been promoted twice.

In unrelated news progress on the railroad has slowed slightly due to environmental concerns. Namely it's hotter than the hinges of hell out and the AC out there got fried by lightening. A replacement compressor is on the way.

I need a railroad icon.

Benchwork is complete. Now it's time to lay out the grades and get risers and roadbed in place for track laying.

Pre-Track Work Commences )

Pay no attention, these posts are just so I can keep track in my LJ.

Day 1:
Installed the backdrop supports. Began adhering the foam.

This was another day when I feel as though being a woman has caused me issues. I have no idea how to use a caulking gun and I managed to explode a can of adhesive across the foam and some of it landed on my drill. I hope I haven't ruined it. It's been my constant companion in this thing!

OMG it's done and the railroad forum is down so I can't share my glee with the guys there (really, it's all guys) who've been so encouraging and helpful so I'm inflicting it on you!

OK, the whole thing is not done but all the benchwork that I had to build all by myself with my very own hands and my new best friend the compound miter saw is DONE!!!!

Come on, you know you wanna look )
