I woke up with a horrible case of vertigo (and the accompanying nausea). I figured it was just allergies and would pass after I'd been up for a while. I tried to go to work since the first thing I had to do today was a coorporate portait of a client on location. I didn't even make it out of my driveway. I emailed the office and had them reschedule and crawled back into bed. I was feeling a bit better by late afternoon and managed to make to the eye Dr. for a checkup. I knew I needed new glasses. My old ones haven't been right since I got them but that was a long time ago. I got computer glasses last year but could not afford new distance glasses. I was figuring $300 for the glasses. It's what they have always cost in the past. Not this time. This time, $145! The frames, which were the ones I liked the best, were $35! I'm thrilled. Also, the Dr. told me my new glasses will be 20% stonger than my old ones and my old ones were pretty strong. You know the giant E at the top of the eye chart? Without my glasses I could not see it. At all.

vertigo is nearly gone now and I hope it stays gone now the weekend is here.

Maybe something is going around? A number of people have complained about the same symptoms.

I am glad that the frames were so cheap.

I have vertigo so often, I keep meclizine (antivert) on hand. It's a life saver. It's over the counter, but you probably have to ask for it. It will make you sleepy, but a half pill will sometimes get you through work.

My mom offered me some anti-vert. I should have taken it but I am really nervous about drugs. I tend to react badly to stuff.

I am the same way. If something says it will cause xyz in 1% of people taking it, I am that 1%.

That's what I tell people if my eyesight comes up: "You know the big E on the top of the chart, the one everyone thinks is a joke? I can't read it."

Not only can I not read it, I can't even see it. All I saw was a whitish blur. I've worn glasses since I was really little. Now and again I think lasik might be a nice thing.

I asked my eye doctor about Lasiks and got told that my corneas are too thin. There is a new technique that would work for me, but he advised waiting a few years until they get more experience.

Same here. The eye chart was just a fuzzy light spot on the wall. That's the way it always was but I got cataracts in both eyes. The surgery removes your natural cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial one in your prescription. I can see without glasses for the first time since I was in third grade and my insurance paid for it all. Amazing.

Gotta send you links. I swear you can beat those prices by buying glasses online & with the savings get prescription sunglasses

I have prescription sunglasses, and I adore them. I can read a map and everything! Not to mention being able to read poolside or on the beach. Mine have lasted me for years, so the cost is now down to about $40/year. FanSee

check out this guy. He's been a life saver and I may have finally found a place to get contact for under $300. No one should have to spend 1k (between glasses & contacts) a year to see.

Oh, Quinn, I hope you'll feel better soon. I get that sort of vertigo from time to time and I know it's plum awful.

Glad the new glasses were less pricey than you expected and I hope they make a difference for you, hon.

Thanks, I am so excited and feel stupid I waited so long. I just thought I wasn't going to be able to afford them until now.

Hope the vertigo is well and truly gone.

I've been giving serious consideration to getting glasses for the computer, besides my bifocals. My job has me on the computer most of the work day, and of course when I'm not working...well, here I am, aren't I? I squint terribly, trying to see the screen. You know, if the clock strikes 12 while I'm squinting, my face will freeze that way. So.... I need to make an appointment with the opthamologist first; I'm due, anyway. FanSee

I love my computer glasses. I switch off between distance, reading and computer. Next option is a dog.

Man, that sucks. There's nothing worse than having to hang on to something just to feel like you won't get tossed off the earth. But, I'm glad you're feeling better and that's great you got a deal on your glasses - cause that's always a plus.

Thanks, that's just how it felt. If I moved my head at all the whole world started rocking and roiling.

I too suffer from vertigo with nausea and after almost a full year without any major problems this past month has been a killer. I never take any medication but this recent stretch had pushed me closer to getting my prescription filled.

My 2 cents about glasses. Unless you are buying designer frames, there is no need to pay hundreds of dollars for them. I used to never be able to buy glasses for less that $300, until I found out you can buy them online for far, far cheaper. I have really bad eyes and I've worn glasses since I was 3. My current script is something crazy like +75 & +5.25 and the doc just fit me for multi-focal contacts. If I can buy online ANYBODY can.

I've used zenni-optical and Coastal Contacts and been pleased with the service and quality. For more options and even some discount designer wear check out

I went to +75 & +6.75 with this prescription. I thought $145 was very cheap. Are you getting them a lot cheaper than that?

ETA: Just went and checked and yeah, they have something similar to what I got for about $75. I assume shipping etc. on top of that. I have to pay an extra $9 since they are so strong. Still, nearly half the price!

The best part of it, you can afford to buy different pairs for different purposes.

Do like I did and give it a test run. Pick a basic pair and order them. I have at least 12 pairs now and I love having the option to coordinate with outfits.
