I read somewhere that he wanted Lieberman, but Karl Rove vetoed the idea.

But the end result has to be Palin headed back to Alaska like a rejected Supreme Court Nominee to 'take care of her daughter"

That's what I've been thinking, and I will be surprised if it doesn't play out that way. It still pisses me off, because it seems to be trying to leave the implication of, "Well we tried to get women involved in the upper level of politics but they were too under qualified and embarrassing! That's why we choose the men-folks instead." When meanwhile there are plenty of qualified, intelligent women out there who could competently handle the position and are ignored.

(I promise I'm not a crazy feminist, this sort of sexism just pisses me off. Even if it isn't outright stated by the Republicans, it is strongly implied by Fox News and co. which really isn't right.)
