Yesterday at work we were informed of the official policy and plan regarding a hurricane.

1: Once under a hurricane warning all workers are to leave and be at home or shelter.
2: When the storm passes we go on round the clock emergency 8 hour shifts on double time (Hazardous Duty Pay.) We provide essential services, we will be able to pass the police check points.
3: The company will feed us during this time. We have been asked to provide a list of foods and drinks that we would like the company to purchase for us.
4: The company is installing two feul tanks (Diesel and unleaded) so that employees can fill up their cars.
5: If our building is actually destroyed a skeleton crew will transfer to temporary offices at our Miami head office. Company will provide lodging.

When I was working for Blockbuster two years ago and we got hit with five hurricanes, I had to report to work immediately. We had no power, no air conditioning. We got paid our usual low pay. We had to clean up all the crap in the store from where our roof was damaged and we were exposed to mold. Basically it sucked. It's very nice to work at a place that has a plan in place in which the care and safety of it's employees are taken into account.

I'm very impressed with your company's plan. They really seem to know what they are doing and how to take care of their employees. I'm really happy for you. It must be comforting to go to work knowing you are appropriately cared for.

Yeah, remind me again why I live in Florida? Oh, that's right, 30 inches of snow.
Glad some employers think of their people. Where my son worked, a man was fired for not showing up during Ivan, his house had washed away, but that didn't cut any ice with his employer, a worldwide corporation.

Oddly enough, we don't have a Hurrican evacuation system really in place in general for my city let alone my work. Honestly we just work on, get the hell out and to higher ground which worked pretty much when Floyd came.

God Bless, Florida! We've been reviewing our "Hurricane Plan" and "Disaster Recovery Plan" at work as well. I remember our first year they gave us garbage bags for the PCs. Alright! We still laugh at that one.

Ah isn't it wonderful living in Florida? I live outside Orlando. When Charlie, Jeanne and what was the other one? Something with a "D" *ponders & scratches head* Stormed through here a few years back it was a mess.

Your new employer seems to be on the ball. Planning ahead and being cautious is always a good thing. So is treating your employees well.

Umm, can I just say Blockbuster sucks! God I hate that company but of course for other reasons. lol
