Yesterday at work we were informed of the official policy and plan regarding a hurricane.
1: Once under a hurricane warning all workers are to leave and be at home or shelter.
2: When the storm passes we go on round the clock emergency 8 hour shifts on double time (Hazardous Duty Pay.) We provide essential services, we will be able to pass the police check points.
3: The company will feed us during this time. We have been asked to provide a list of foods and drinks that we would like the company to purchase for us.
4: The company is installing two feul tanks (Diesel and unleaded) so that employees can fill up their cars.
5: If our building is actually destroyed a skeleton crew will transfer to temporary offices at our Miami head office. Company will provide lodging.
When I was working for Blockbuster two years ago and we got hit with five hurricanes, I had to report to work immediately. We had no power, no air conditioning. We got paid our usual low pay. We had to clean up all the crap in the store from where our roof was damaged and we were exposed to mold. Basically it sucked. It's very nice to work at a place that has a plan in place in which the care and safety of it's employees are taken into account.
