It appears that I haven't posted here since March. Oops. I've been mostly hanging out in comms or on Twitter. Anyway, a few of us on Twitter were looking for a place to talk about Criminal Minds. That's what this post is for! I'm on mobile so I'll pretty it up later but in the meanwhile if you're a CM fan feel free to jump right in. I have a couple of things I want to discuss that I'll bring up in comments.

Why no fic?

Seriously? Seven seasons in and there's no good fic? How can this be? There is so much stuff just in canon to work with! Addictions, abuse, torture, kidnapping, grief, buddies, flirting galore, fascinating characters, pretty boys, awesome girls...WHERE IS THE FIC?

This is a series where the geeky, awkward, self conscious nerd is played by a male model for heaven's sake!

There is SOME, but ITA way way too little good fic for a 7 season show that is that amazing and has so so much potential.
And most of all, hardly any long fic.

IDK how much fic is there in this fandom ... I had read just one so far...

but it´s a shame cause there is so much stuff happening in the show ..

I srsly cannot believe the lack of fic for the show or that pairing - I mean from what little I've seen (currently working my way through Season 1 but I've seen bits and pieces up through maybe season 6?) - this would be considered a main pairing - Morgan/Reid that is - although I do see quite a bit of Hotch/Reid which I could also see. But Morgan/Reid is totally what I would ship LOL. And yes, there is a distinct lack of good fic.

It's so funny sometimes, and seemingly random, why some shows spawn these huge passionate fic-writing fanbases and other such as this that even someone like me who has seen virtually none of can see such huge slashy potiential (wow that was a long sentence). I have been in several small fandoms and it's a great experience because they are almost always friendly, close-knit and wank-free. The downside is no fic.

In a huge fandom like X-Files I'm so picky about what I will and won't read. But in a small fandom I'm just so grateful for any fic that I will read anything lol.

Pretty Boy

So here's my theory on why Morgan calls Reid 'Pretty Boy.' working just with what we seen screen and assuming no relationship between them, why would he call him that? It's not sarcastic, in Reid's most frightened and vulnerable moment he calls him that. I think he doesn't because Reid has full confidence in his brain. He's always admired and appreciated for that. But he's socially awkward. Beautiful women have hit on him (they aren't blind and stupid after all) but it doesn't seem to have registered with him that he's physically very attractive.

It can't have helped that he was probably out of undergraduate school before he even fully entered puberty. He had to deal with his dysfunctional home. He had to time or opportunity to really explore any kinds of relationships. We don't even know for sure his sexual orientation, Im not convinced he's sure himself. So getting back to the point, I think Morgan does it to,remind Reid that he's more than just a brain.

yeah I agree, I think it's his way to remind Reid (and others) that he's more than just the young Dr. Genius.
What I love is how over the years you can see how Morgan's behaviour changed, first it was pretty much making fun (not in mean spirited way at all, but still making fun, like with the whistle) of Reid, but they to me seemed to have grown so much trust between them, IDK if everyon saw all of S7 yet, so not sure what is okay to say and what would spoil, but little hints in the show, made me create my reality in which they spend lots of time together and talk a LOT about things they wouldn'T talk to others about

this and much more. you can see that morgan always keeps an eye on reid no matter what he's doing. remember in season 2 right after reid was kidnapped? morgan was around him. and that's the first that popped into my mind.

oohh, in season 1 for ex when morgan gives reid that whistle ...

and yeah, i think reid is not aware of his sexuality and i also think that morgan can be part of both teams

I have so much love for this show!!! The show, the cast, the characters, everything around it.
I don't even wanna imagine what would have happened if the fanprotests last year wouldn't have been successful, maybe they'd have removed even more castmembers. But now everything is back to awesomeness.

I love Morgan and Reid (and I also start slipping in the RPS part that are MGG and Shemar already again, somehow RPS always gets me ;) and I love how the show is not only about the cases but there is so much backstory they keep bringing up.

Yeah anyway, I need more good Morgan/Reid fic (and I take MGG/Shemar fic anyday too)
Just look at all the Morgan and Reid moments, Season 7 is FULL with subtle hints and I love the writers for it!

I haven't even looked at RPS yet here. I've been trolling AO3 but haven't found anything good yet. Some that was okay but nothing like you'd expect from a show like this.

Just a few totally random moments (not all Season 7) that has Morgan and Reid look at each other in such a close kinda of way, even though those aren't even supposed to be M/R moments on the show.

This one you hardly even catch while watching, I only saw it in screencaps how close they look here:

First, I just checked out Fanfic.net and they have over 17,000 fics listed. I haven't read any so can't verify quality.

I agree that Reid hasn't really explored his own sexuality yet. I'd love to see him either w/ Morgan or someone strong (like a firefighter, maybe)?

I started watching the show on reruns, then became hooked like I am now.

I never really go to fanfic.net, but I guess IF there would be more good fic around, LJ would be ther first place it'd appear anyway.

I'm so shipping him with Morgan, Morgan might not be a firefighter, but he used to be a special bomob squad cop ;P

Although I do enjoy a good Hotch/Reid fic, my absolute favorite pairing is Reid/Rossi. There were several fantastic stories written a couple of years ago (Myrna 1_2_3 and Innerslytherin and Severity_softly immediately come to mind) but then enthusiasm for this pairing seemed to fade out.
