So Adam's first single is a dance pop tune about rough sex with d/s overtones. Love it.

I don't really know how to describe it because it's very him. There are some girl singers doing similar stuff but not quite like this and no men are at the moment and this has very masculine overtones. As someone said in a comment thread, "He's even toppy in his songs!" I've heard a few people say they don't think is sounds like him, which is a bit odd to me because I think it sounds exactly like him. That was my biggest fear really, that his voice would be over produced to the point of mediocrity and I don't hear any of that here. He's not letting go in the upper range but he can't do that on every song. It'd get monotonous and the people who don't get it would be labeling him a 'screamer' again.

In any case I can't imagine any other person coming out of idol singing this lyric:

The fact that my quite conservative, Fox News-watching boss loved Adam on AI, was pissed when he didn't win, and who Adam actually is is a juxtaposition that amuses me no end, and really says something about the undeniability of real talent (my quasi-bi roommate from spring also had a major boy-crush on him). I wonder if my boss will buy the album.

And charisma. In addition to his awesome talent he has that electric thing that 'stars' have. I heard so many people say things like, "I don't know what it is, he's not really my type and he sings things that I don't usually like but I can't stop watching him!"

A reviewer also pointed out that the lyrics can also be construed (in a way) as the relationship between performer (especially one such as Adam) and audience, which I think could definitely ring true. I think the song is catchy and a lot of fun. I really can't wait to see this live on the AMAs either!

And I'm not sure if you saw on the ontd site, but one of the girls had tweeted him, saying, "I think this song requires a sweaty club video with half dressed people of all genders and orientations." and he actually messaged her back privately and said, "You're reading my mind for that video honey!" Hehe.

I did see that, which really gets my hopes up. Especially since his label seems to realise they may have a monster on their hands and appear to be letting him make the creative decisions.

That was my first impression. Club sound, fine, but it sounded to me as if he was singing through a voice alteration thing like informants do on tv shows. To the point that I thought it began with some background singers (even if he's the actual background singers, which I know happens as some singers record separate tracks). I kept listening for Adam and not finding him.

And that's fine; I personally thought some of his Idol choices when he didn't give in to that easy reach were much more effective (Feelin' Good, If I Can't Have You, for example). Not to say I don't like his upper register, but yeah, it would get very boring after awhile and damage his voice.

That said, I'm going to listen some more. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the lyrics!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the cover for this single (a lot more than the album cover) and I love the title of the song/album. I'll be watching for the vid and his live performance of this song. And I'll have the album Amazon'd to my computer as soon as it hits.

I wonder if the sound thing has anything to do with how it's being listened to? I've only heard it through headphones so far. At work I had my super high end ones that I use for editing on and then I've heard it through my iPod and it all sounds like him. Maybe if I heard it on speakers it'd be less so. I don't know.

It's just made me all the more excited about the rest of it though and I can't wait to see him do this live.

Could be. I listened to the stream from his website on my not-even-close to high end speakers.
