I was hesitant to break the news to you that you would have to surrender eventually, haha. I quickly figured out that I couldn't beat the mother raccoon and her three kiddos when it came to feeding my outdoor cats, so they all ended up getting fed together. At least they're cute, eh?
Having surrendered to the raccoons and skunks and squirrels and chipmunks and wild turkeys and foxes that inhabit the woods outside of my condo, I think you've made a wise choise. I just put extra food out at night for the night creatures, and a little extra out in the day for the day creatures. It's much more harmonious that way. ;-)
We were OVERRUN with raccoons for months. They were creating havoc on my dad's garden, our trash cans, and scaring the crap out of us if we came home after dark. We finally had to hire someone to come and set traps that didn't harm them in any way. He would come each day and take the trap somewhere and let the raccoon out in the wild, being sure to use the same spot each time so as not to break up a family (lol). we caught 14 in a 2 week time period. It was unreal. He said he had never seem so many in one place (we live on a canyon).
