I just placed the order for my Kindle (yeah! I've been saving for months), so who can refer me to good sites, groups, LJs, blogs etc.? As I recall there's a fanfic group of some sort isn't there?
I'm very excited. It was a new TV or a Kindle and since I don't really watch all that much TV but I read all the time it came down to the Kindle.

Also, I c/p online stories to a .doc and send it to my user@free-kindle.com or user@kindle.com addy and it re-formats it for Kindle.
Much fun.
If you find the fanfic group, lmk!

Makes me wonder if they could do the same with music we've purchased? I never joined one of those music subscription services because you were basically just renting the songs; if you got a new computer or stopped your subscription, your music library went away. So I always thought owning was the better plan, but evidently, not in the Kindle!verse. And yet, I still really really want a Kindle.

Then there's Truly Free, where you can download about ten ebooks every two weeks, and manybooks.net, which is actually my favorite of the bunch. manybooks.net has free/collective commons and public domain books, and you can download it in Kindle format.
A lot of these places will have books in a non-kindle friendly format. A fantastically helpful program is Mobipocket Creator, where you can convert doc, pdf, html, and some other files into .prc files, which can be read on the Kindle. (A lot of files will be read on the Kindle, but converting it lets you add formatting and proper titles and authors to it, etc. Plus pdf has to be converted and the email conversion didn't work the last time I tried.)
Another useful program is Converter Lit, which will explode .lit files into html and doc files so that they can be converted to be read on the Kindle.
I've had my Kindle for about five months now and I love it to pieces. I bet you will too. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :D
