I re-read Adventures and wow most of those manips sucked. I know it was a long time ago and I was working very fast but still. They're bad. Story holds up well but they are just not good.
There's a link in my links list. It's part of a story I told in epistolic form that went on for years. I posted pretty much every single day for I think 2 1/2 to 3 years. In any case the entire thing was over a thousand posts. Adventures takes the boys around the world and is made up of journal entries, letters, telegrams, and emails. All in graphic format. Each entry was a large image that showed the letter or whatever and accompanying photographs or drawings. The first part (Correspondence) often showed the letters in the environment in which they were being read.
I had taken all the fics down a while ago and have just reposted them.
You're a perfectionist and I mean that in the nicest way! It shows in everything you do. I was amazed and still am that anyone could produce the quantity and quality of work you did. You kept QAF alive when we weren't ready to let it go and did it beautifully. What more could we ask?
Well, I must disagree. ;) Especially as we get more proficient at something, which you definitely have with Photoshop over the years since Adventures, it's easy to see what we could *now* improve on, but I think most of your manips are still very high quality. Not 100%, nobody's gonna be perfect, but the sentimental attachment I have for these aside, I think the art holds up just as well as the text.
You think you'll repost Interlude, Summer, and Fall at some point?
Oh, and reading your Kindle post reminded me that the last time i reread Adventures a few months ago I was thinking about how fast technology moves and that if you wrote it now, they would have Kindles for their trip to make those long train and plane rides easier. ;)
I know you want to beat yourself up because you feel it's not your best work, and I understand that, but those stories took our boys on a journey that allowed us to feel like we were invited along, and for that, we owe you.
So instead of seeing them for what they could have been, see them for what they were... exactly what we needed at the time, and to be honest, something we still do.

I don't see how you could have made them any better. I re-read them regularly.
