Still cutting
I am really really sick of all these holier than thou posts saying fans have no right to be upset and should shut the fuck up. You know what? SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's. If you liked C of E then good for you, glad you had a nice time. Post all about how great you thought it was. That does not mean I had to like it or anyone else had to. We owe the makers of this show no more than they owed us. It's all well and good to say without them we wouldn't have had a show, well without us they wouldn't have had a show either. Goes both ways. You put something out in public then you better be prepared to take your lumps. Especially when A: It's something you know a vast majority of your loyal fanbase is going to hate, and B: You led those same fans on with lies and misdirection to use them to promote your show.
I felt sorry Moran was stuck out there taking the heat alone, especially when he said over and over again he wasn't too blame. "Don't blame me! I didn't write it! Not my fault!" and I was more than willing to concede that until he made his little whiplash turnaround "My finger was on the kill button and I was part of the decision to kill Ianto!" well guess what, you can't have it both ways. If you want to take the credit then be prepared to take the blame. I do not think personal attacks on him are valid since RTD controls what happens despite what Moran say. I have no problem at all saying what I think of RTD and he deserves every bit of whatever he gets. Especially since fucking over his audience amuses him anyway.
You loved it, say so, but DO NOT BY GOD TELL ME NOT TO SAY WHAT I THINK. I will not roll over and worship at the feet of a talentless hack who has never managed to end a series in his life. Chibnall made TW what it was, not RTD. RTD just wrecked it.

That said, it was obvious from the text just how little time he had for Torchwood, both literally and figuratively. Considering it was 'his' show (in that he conceived it from scratch) I feel he had gone WAY off it by the time he wrote the book.

And for me, Torchwood is over. No matter what they do now, it'll never be the same show I fell in love with. Shame, that.

Personally, I'm not all that pissed off at Russell. He does things his way - always has.
And I did think (and have stated) that the show was compelling TV.
Good on them. If that's what they wanted to achieve, then they succeeded.
But if they think that the majority of TW fans who opened the door for them to have their big moment on BBC1 are going to go on supporting the show with only Gwen left of the team, they are seriously delusional.
Most TW fans got hooked on the show because of Jack. That's why RTD got the opportunity to make TW at all - because the immense popularity of Captain Jack gave him a springboard into a ready-made audience.
And surely one of the reasons that CoE garnered the immense ratings it did outside the TW fandom was because of the popularity of ... let's see ... would that be Eve Myles? Ah, no. That would be John Barrowman. No JB, no ongoing success for TW - either with TW fans, or with the new viewers they captured for CoE. That is my prediction, anyway.
The one single thing that could make me watch the show without Jack and Jones is if they bring in Mickey. I did (and do) love Mickey. But seriously, if it meant watching Gwen "if I'm so wonderfully good with people how come I seriously fuck them over so often?" Cooper strutting around being "the boss" ... then I don't think even Mickey will keep me watching.
