I Need Some Pop Culture Education

A couple of things have come up recently which reveal once again my near total lack of knowledge of most pop culture.

Who are "Spencer" and "Heidi"??? All of a sudden I am seeing these names everywhere.

Also, can someone please explain the Jonas Brothers to me? I had heard of them, knew they were a kiddie pop group, and that was about it. Then some footage of them came across my desk a couple of days ago and I am baffled. What is the deal? They aren't cute or even particularly good looking, the music is lame, and they can't dance. They actually look awkward on stage to me. Apparently I am ancient.

Spencer is Spencer Pratt, and Heidi is Heidi Montag. I believe they are both on "The Hills," a show I've never seen (thankfully). They are married in RL, and the press call them "Speidi" (gag me with a spoon). They are currently on (or were on) "I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of Here!"

According to my 14 year-old son, the Jonas Brothers are big with the young teen set (under 16 girls) but the teen boys think they are lame. I have to agree. They were on the Today Show this morning, and girls have been lined up since Wednesday afternoon to see them! Oy.

We're not ancient. We just have good taste in males and music LOL!

ETA - my son actually says "the Jonas Brothers are douchebags" quote/unquote.

Okay, so these are reality 'stars' (I had to Google The Hills) who did another reality show while the first one was on hiatus and, while on the second show, managed to get themselves born again with the help of one of the minor Baldwins.

I can't decide if this is awesome or just ludicrous. I'm really glad you get paid to track all of this so I don't have to.

Also, now that you kind of know who they are ... eonline.com is holding a poll to vote whether or not people never want to see Heidi or Spencer ever again on E. I'd appreciate it if you voted for it! It's my place of work and I never want them to see them there ever again or ever mentioned ever again.

Never heard of Spencer and Heidi don't care either. The Jonas Bros are becoming big over here in Aus for the tweenies 10-15yr olds. Could they be any lamer even the Partrige Family were better at least David Cassidy was hot

Okay, so. There is this "reality" show called The Hills that follows the adventures of a girl named Lauren who lives in California. Heidi was her best friend for a couple seasons until they had a big falling out. Spencer is Heidi's boyfriend (now husband). They are both giant douchey attention whores. Unfortunately they're in the tabloids all the time because they are giant douchey attention whores.

You summed up the Jonas Brothers in a nutshell.

even when i was 14, i wouldn't have gone for the jonas bros like other girls that age would. i think i was always drawn to artist/actors with talent, not because they're "cute":)

it's sad that i know who spencer and heidi and how awful they are without having seen 'the hills.'
