I haven't had much time to play yet but I can tell already that the new Sim Creator is fantastic. Everything is adjustable with sliders so the odds of any two sims looking alike are pretty small. The body type sliders are for both weight and muscle mass. The sim above is on the slim side with above average muscle mass. Skin tone is also done with a slider. Eye color and hair color have swatches but if you want something else you can select your own colors. There are four hair colors for each sim, base, tips, roots and highlights.
Speaking of hair my first sim was a guy and as usual the guy hair styles are pretty limited but there are two versions of Adam Lambert's style so I assume there are probably Sim Adams on the exchange already. The female styles are very nice and there are a lot of new choices.
Clothes are done about the same way but you get to choose shoes and jewelry etc. for each outfit (oh and you can change hair for each outfit as well.) One odd thing is the underwear option is gone. It's every day, formal, nightwear, athletic and swim.
You choose 5 traits out of about 60 for each sim and also a lifetime goal, favorite food, music and color.

Build mode is just like Sims2 except you can change color and texture of pretty much everything.

In the game itself (which I really haven't played much yet) the main thing that jumps out is that you can follow your sim in his or her travels around town. They don't just get in a taxi or car to work and vanish. The game looks beautiful, as you can see the sims are really nicely rendered. Be sure and adjust your screen resolution, my screen is a widescreen so it looked pretty funky until I got the game adjusted to match.

Technically as with any Sims game you need a powerful computer. I am playing on my laptop and it needs the cooling pad on high. If you plan to play on a laptop and do not have a cooling pad you probably better get one.
