Logically I know it really doesn't matter if Adam wins. His future is set, there is no doubt he'll get signed. And if he loses he will not have to record that horrid winner's song. But I still have the awful sense of 'Brokeback Mountain' dread. He could lose just because he's gay. And that would be a travesty. I so want him to win.

You worded this perfectly. I feel the exact same way. I sooo want him to win, I texted in ten votes for him last night (and suffered the joking from the BF as a cost - I told him that since he forgot to vote in the CA state election yesterday, I was only making up for him). Heh.

I have a feeling we're worrying for nothing. :)

I totally agree. I mean, I know it really doesn't matter at this point, they'll both have great careers no matter what, but I really want Adam to have the bragging rights. He wants this SO BAD, and I would love for him to get that validation he's seeking. And I also don't want to hear 80 million reports tomorrow about how homophobic America is, blah blah... (not that people would even know for sure if that's why he lost or not). But indeed, the saving grace would be that he could avoid recording Kara's piece o' crap song.

I have been an Adam fan from the beginning but I convinced myself he could not win this popularity contest so I very surprised to find him in the finals tonight. BTW this results show is really terrible (except for Adam and Kiss of course).

I think he will. But I also think that, in some ways, the American Idol winners don't have as much artistic freedom as someone who didn't win.

[livejournal.com profile] fiercediva had some great conversation over this.

It truly is a shame and a horrid mess that something that should be fun gets ruined by the likes of Bill O'Reilly.

Sadly I think he lost because all the Gokey fans voted for Kris. It wasn't that America didn't love him. It was that the Gokey fans hated him enough to all go to Kris. *sighs*

The Gokey fans were told by their preachers who to vote for. They were telling them from the pulpits that Adam couldn't win or he would be a bad influence on all those innocent kids. When Gokey lost the preachers shifted the vote to Kris.

That was my thought exactly. Don't get me wrong, I like Kris too, especially after Heartless last week. I look forward to his albums after the mandatory Idol album. I just would have been so proud of our country if Adam had won. It seems silly, but it's the small things like this that show how much our country isn't changing. He was the front runner for so long, and had the most polished talent. He'll still have an amazing career. Maybe he'll be able to do more for gay rights out from under the gigantic Idol thumb just by being himself. They won't get the chance to stifle him this way.
