I took my mom down to Palm Beach Gardens yesterday to exchange an outfit at Talbots. Naturally we hit up a few other stores while there. I was good and just got some stuff at Sur La Table that I had on my 'to buy' list. On the way out to the car though we passed the Izod store and everything in there was on sale for 50% off plus another 30% off that and then another 15% at the cash register! It was amazing. I didn't go crazy though, just got a skort and a polo. Also we had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.

Now for the good part. I swear they are out to get me or something. I was driving home, cruising along about 75 in the right hand lane, big truck behind me but he was driving about the same speed as me so no problem there. Two cars were coming up from behind in the left lane and about to go by the truck and me when a guy who was in the breakdown lane suddenly pulled out in front of me and did not accelerate! Again! I had to slam on the breaks but I wasn't going to make it, there was no way I could stay where I was and not hit him (not to mention the truck behind me hitting me). I could not go left because of the two cars coming up that way and also the truck was going to need that lane. I went into the breakdown lane and had to actually stop to avoid hitting the guy. The cars must have seen what was going on and braked, allowing the truck to get into the left lane just in time to avoid hitting me. Scared the hell out me and my mom. Though my sweet mom said, "I wasn't too scared, I could see you had control of the car." Bless her, I was scared enough for the both of us and that poor truck driver too.

Today no one tried to kill me on a highway. I went to Barnes and Noble and the clerk asked how I've been since she hadn't seen me in a long time. It's nice to be known in the bookshop.

My feeders have been up for two weeks and thus far not a single bird has visited. The web sites say to give it a month before trying a different location. In the meanwhile this guy was in my holly tree in the back yard this evening.

Brown Thrasher

Handsome isn't he?

I'm not a birder. Much as I love taking photos of birds and seeing them in my yard etc. I'm far from any kind of expert. I know my wading birds pretty well since they are so common here but songbirds not so much. Happily there is a flickr group just for identifying birds. You post a photo and tell where and when you took it and generally in under ten minutes someone will tell you what it is. That's how I got this one identified. It's a great resource.

Oh gosh, I'm so glad you narrowly escaped being in a accident. Some people are so careless on the roads, it makes me want to scream.

The photos look great. I took my new SLR out to a park on the weekend and played around with the settings, I took over 300 photos, but I swear only about 200 look okay. But I'll get there. Practice makes perfect, right?

That sounds like a good result to me! There are days I shoot 300 and like ten.

Sounds like you are cool and calm (outwardly, anyway) under pressure. Good job!

And that thrasher is a cutie. I love how he kind of looks angry, but really it's just his natural "bird" face. :)

I liked his grumpy face too.

So very glad you and your Mom are okay! Incredibly scary and good grief, the idiocy of some drivers beggars belief. Just glad your quick reaction helped save you from an accident. Muy hugs on that front, hon.

As for your photos-- so gorgeous! Your stuff always blows me away, but these are extraordinary, in the detail and that you were able to *capture* him so well and so many times, so perfectly.

Do give your feeder time to be *found.* They'll come eventually.

Isn't that the truth? I did get your email re" GDL by the way. I doubt I'll go. I'm just not one for going out of my way for stuff like that. By the time I went up there and spent the night and bought meals it'd be a couple of hundred bucks and there's a lot I'd rather spend that much money on.

The pics are gorgeous!

I'm glad you had a nice time shopping, but those bad drivers can really ruin a good day. Sometimes I feel like I must have an invisible car!

*hugs*

I was taking pictures in my parents backyard this afternoon. Birds are hard to photograph. They just will not stay still. LOL.

I did manage to get a picture of the blue jay that my parents have been feeding regularly. He eats cat food off the back porch. No kidding. I'll try to post the picture if I get a chance.

Lovely, as always.

Did you see this? I saw it and immediately thought of you.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen it and it was really interesting. Amazing shot, I'd never heard of birds doing that.

Neither had I. On first sight, I assumed it was photoshopped. Fascinating.

Oh, and of course, you're very welcome. I thought you'd find it fun.
