I was prepping my cameras for tomorrow's shoot when it occurred to me that I carry around in my bag 400 times the storage than was on my first desktop computer. Which had a whopping 1 gig hard drive (which I thought was enormous) and a blazing fast 1mb processor. (I think)

Every day I carry my two ipods, two cameras, extra cards a jump drive and an external hard drive. All of which (with the exception of my digital SLR) are very small and weight very little. I love technology.

Same here - my handbag normally contains at least an iPod, camera, Cybook ebook reader, PSP and 500gb portable external hard drive. It staggers me that I can carry around albums, movies, pictures and books in quantities that in physical form would fill my entire house.

I was thinking the same thing last time I went on vacation. I only had two cameras. I uploaded all my photos from the hotel. No worries. I do kind of miss my Nikon F5 sometimes. But I don't miss the weight, all the extra film, etc.

Oh yes. My first computer was quite old when I got it (20mb hard drive, gigantic floppy disks, no coloured screen and running on Windows 3.3 or something) and I couldn't do anything with it. Just a cd has 30 times more data on it than that old crutch.

If you stop and think about it, the technological developements of the last few decades have been enormous. I mean, ten years ago cellphones were still the toys of stressed managers and now a kid in first grade without one is a rarety.

*bwahahaha* that's not old.

My first computer had 128k of RAM, NO HDD (Everything ran from 5.25" floppies). It had a word processor that wouldn't underline and you changed fonts at the printer, for the whole document. It was top of the range back then:)

My mother still can't cope with the fact I can take 200 or so photos and it not cost me a cent, and is constantly worried about 'how much it costs to send an email'

omg, seeing you mention jump drives and external hard drives reminds me (again) that I need to get set up with something to use as a back-up system, but that is not why I'm writing.

Someone was just asking about your fics on getithere and I wanted to link them, but I don't see your site. Did you take it down and I missed it?

I've removed all my fics for now. I'm not sure if I'll put them back up or not.

Oh no! I hate to hear that. They are among my absolute favorites and I recommend them frequently. I hope you put them back up; they're so incredibly creative.
