A few days before the last Harry Potter book came out my local newspaper printed a total spoiler in a headline on the front page of one of its sections. The type was three inches high and impossible to miss. So even though I was making every effort not to be spoiled I was. I'm begging you all to not spoil for this book. If you intend to make any sort of emotional reaction post, icon, spoil whatever outside a cut please let me know so I can de-friend you for a while until after I've read the book for myself.

Thanks.

Don't worry, darlin. I actually plan to do a separate filter for anyone who wants to discuss the book after reading it. I don't plan on even checking into lj until Monday.

Enjoy, I know i am!!

I posted my own spoiler policy right here quite a while back. In the meantime, I've disabled any other than default icons in comms, and I have my graphics set up so that I have to click a link to see any. And most of my friends are doing the same, or are just looking at Journals (versus all). Safer that way.

Me, paranoid? Well, maybe. ;)

OMG that's just horrid! I think I may have to do the same and just stay away.

actually, they might not have even been popups. I think one of them was an AD on top of some page. -_-

Well, you no-spoiler chicks can safely talk to me. Here's what I know about Harry Potter: He wears glasses, he gets sent to Hogwarts to learn to be a wizard, he makes some friends at school, there are people named Weasley, Snape, Severus?, Sirius, and Draco. Written by JK Rowling and the upcoming book is the last in the series. ;)

And, Quinn, I cannot believe your local paper's editor didn't completely strike the spoiler! That's really unforgiveable.

I was spoiled twice before this one came out and I cried for two days straight. It actually drove me away from the last two books for a while. I am seriously gonna stay away from the net till I am done.

If you don't want to be spoiled after July 21st, stay off the internet. The only way you'll be safe.

And you might want to stay away from TV, the radio, newspapers and all public places too!

Seriously though, I understand what you're saying, but no one should be expected to censor themselves when that book is released.

I don't expect anyone to censor themselves but it's the same as not spoiling for TV. Give it a decent interval before you say anything out side a cut. If you don't want to, that's fine. But tell me now so I can take action to avoid it. I should have the book read by Sunday night but I'm not going to post spoilers for it out in the open.

I would never talk about something new without a cut, and I'm going to be on vacation anyway. I was just speaking generally. Something THIS huge, it's going to be really hard not to be spoiled.

That sucks that your newspaper printed the spoiler especially in 3 inch type. I am, so far, spoiler free, and when I do read the book, any comments for the first two weeks will be behind the cut. It would be rude and unfair to do otherwise.

I highly recommend staying off the entire internet until after you've finished the book. Spoilers are going to be in many, many places...

I don't have much experience with HP, but even I'm curious how the series will end ;)
