I can't be the only one on my flist who read the excerpt from Anderson Cooper's new book in Vanity Fair but there hasn't been any chatter about it. If you've missed it, it's really good and the photos are fantastic. I'll be buying this one when it comes out.

I read it. Quite interesting. I cannot imagine having a family member commit suicide, much less being famous and having had that happen. I am also sure that what all those reporters saw in New Orleans has got to stay with them for a long time.

And I cannot believe his mom is 80. (I'm sure there was work done, but she still looks great.)

Haven't read the excerpt yet, but I plan to get the book. I'm just waiting in case my city ends up on the book signing tour.

I know mine won't and those things are always one book per customer so I might as well just get it at my local B&N. I'm there twice a week anyway.

I haven't read the excerpt but I have ordered his book on amazon. Now I'm wondering if I should cancel since he is going to be in the New Orleans area at Barnes and Noble for one of his signings..I just have to be there and get him to sign that book..

There is not a chance he'll be near me I'm afraid. I've been hit with five hurricanes in 2 years but none as bad as Katrina, thank god. So not enough to get him into my neighborhood.

I'm very poor right now, no buying books for me, so I checked my library website and they don't have it listed yet. Hmph.

Lord, he's a pretty man. I plan to get his book, too. Haven't read the Vanity Fair interview yet. I did read his column from Details that talked about his brother's suicide. One of my favorites is his column about his mom's recentish autobiography. Here's the link if you wanna check it out. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/28/talking.sex/index.html

I read that article and really enjoyed it. I like that he's not afraid to approach a topic from a personal point of view.

I read it as well. Very interesting man indeed.
He has always seemed to be a truly caring person, something unusual for anyone in his line of work.
I did not know about his brother, that must be very difficult to deal with. I didn't know who his mother was...and somehow figure that must have come out before now and I just missed it. I loved the line about he and his brother just laughing bout his mothers name on jeans. Lordy I remember when those jeans were *the thing*
Yes will be buying the book!

I read the story and was amazed and touched so much so I wrote this the day I read it

Today after grocery shopping I was at the check out and saw the newest cover of Vanity Fair. It was a huge close up of Anderson Cooper looking daring. Its the best way to describe his look, so naturally I bought it. I read his article for a number of reasons. First, I am taken with the stories of New Orleans because I think that the people of that city have been through an ordeal that takes more courage and more inner strength to survive then I will ever possess. Second I was reading the article trying to get a better look at the news guy that I loved and still couldn't get past his time as the mighty "mole" hunter.

What I found was a very surprising look at his brother Carter's suicide ( that I didn't know about ). And, that Anderson Cooper might be one of the good guys, one of those reporters that goes to bed hoping that he told the best story he could with his allotted time. I found that he wasn't afraid to ask the tough questions, and often felt he could have done it better. I also found a guy that isn't just one of those rich boys that got his job because he was the kid of a famous person. I enjoyed learning that he spent most of his time traveling, learning about a world that he would one day report on. I learned that he had jobs as a kid and being his own man was important to him.

I just liked him more after the article. I guess enough said :)

How's the article?

There isn't any article to go with it, just the book excerpt. I did know about his mother and brother and had read some of his writing on those subjects before but he writes from a very persona; perspective and it's really interesting. I'm looking forward to to the book.
