or How a Good Deed is Turning into a Cluster Fuck (Pardon my language)

Background:
Several times a year my sister, mother and I go away on short 'ladies only' trips. Normally to Disney World. It's close by and we like it.

Because my sister is a teacher, and teachers are so highly regarded in this country, she can't really afford the expense of this. Since I need a room anyway I just pay for the room and she only has to worry about meals. Several months ago it was time to plan our trip for this coming December. Because I was really busy at the time I put it all into the very capable hands of a travel agent. No problems, all is going great with that.

However, my sister began making guilt ridden comments about not being sure she should go to WDW again since she hasn't taken her kids in a long time. Because, of course, teachers don't get paid enough money to both eat and take vacations. This would not do. I happen to love my sister and really wanted her to come with us and so, of course, did my mother. A solution presented itself a couple of weeks ago and, after consulting with my sister, it was decided that we would take the boys up to Disney for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Just a quick, one day trip. You know where this is going don't you?

I called, made the reservations and bought five tickets to the event. My mom decided to go so I got two rooms at the Wilderness Lodge. I paid for one, my mom paid for the other. This is where I got the wrong day. It was supposed to be Friday and I ended up with Thursday. Okay, we'll deal. I tried to add a day to the reservation but that was so much hassle I decided to just forget it. Today I got my confirmation in the mail.

Package Total: $551.00
Received: $826.00

WTF???

I call. Remember way back up there (assuming you haven't fallen asleep by now or fled out of boredom) where I mentioned that I paid for one room ($275.50) and my mother paid for the other? Well, they put the entire $551.00 on my credit card, and then, just for fun, they put $275.50 on my mother's. I guess the guy remembered after he had done it that he was supposed to split the charges. I discovered this because I called to find out why they had more of my money than they should. They credited back the $275.50, but it hasn't shown up yet on my credit card.

All this so I can take two kids to a halloween party when I'm not even all that fond of Halloween. I better get the damn Aunt of the Fucking Year award for this.

/rant.

Oh, PS: The CM (remember, everyone who works for Disney is Cast Member!) said to me, "I see you'll be in town for two nights but we only have a reservation for one night, would you like to add a night? OMG. I almost said, "Sure! Since I've already paid for it!"

*passes you the Aunt of the Year Crown*

My Mom was a teacher. Not only don't they get decent pay, they don't get decent respect either.

I had a "hotel" clusterfuck (one of my favorite words) experience two years ago, and it took 3 months to get the billing straightened out. I feel your pain.

My officemate Gail always says "no good deed goes unpunished".

Poor Quinny - nothing should be this difficult. Hopefully the trip itself will be less traumatizing. :)
