My dad has been looking for a new car. Kind of. He doesn't really like to deal with these things but it's one of those things that had to be done. Since I get his hand-me down cars I always take a mild interest in the proceedings. He and my mother have been bickering over it because he just wanted to buy another one of the car he already has and which he dislike from the moment he bought it. Yes, it doesn't make any sense but that's my dad in a nutshell. Go with what's familiar. He refused to look at any of the cars my mother wanted. So this afternoon I offered to take him to look at Toyotas. A car neither one of them wanted but which seemed to aplit the difference between what he wanted and what she wanted. We left the house at 3:20. Drove 20 minutes to get there and just got home one Toyota Avalon the richer. OMG why is buying a car such a torturous ordeaL??? He wasn't even leasing it or anything. He was writing a check. By 8:15 we were both an the edge of just snatching the keys and leaving.
I will say though the particular dealer we went to was very nice. Gave us a good price on it and also on the trade in car and did come down on the price to what my dad was willing to pay. And my mom liked it too. Which is good because my dad made them write 'sale subject to approval of wife' right on the paperwork! This is how they've managed to stay married for so long apparently. Oh and since I get the hand me downs my Caddy is now looking for a new home (thank God because the air conditioning just blew in it, which we told them) and I am now driving a Honda Accord. Which is not a great car but it's reliable and has working air conditioning and I didn't pay for it. So it's perfect.

I'm sorry, but I think this one is a bad one. It's got the most uncomfortable seats ever and the brakes are so touchy that half the time I feel as though I'd be pitched through the windshield if I wasn't wearing a seat belt. However I'm sure I'll enjoy it and I love the air conditioning :-)

when we got my car it was such a pain in the ass! a friend of my grandfathers sold it to us. he was supposed to change some part in it and give it an oil change and we would ahve ti within 2 days or so.. 2 days pass and we find out that they lost the title to the car. by this time i had told all my friends that i had a car so i looked like an ass cuz i still didnt have the car. the guy told us he would have it by wednesday of the next week. wednesday comes and they dont have it.so me and my mom start to get all pissed so he said he would give us dealer plates if he couldnt find the title and he had to get a new one. another week passed and there was no title so my mom told him we were coming to pick up the car at 4:00 the next day.. not asked him if it would be ready at 4:00.. she TOLD him. lol.. so we finally for the car like 2 weeks after we were supposed to...AND THE ASSHOLE DIDNT DO ALL THE THINGS HE SAID HE WAS GONNA DO!! so we had to pay for an oil change and a tune up.. buying a car sucks ass...

Your parents should love the toyota. I love my camry. And they are great on gas, which is good, with it being as expensive as it is right now. Mine is almost ten years old and it still runs like a dream.

I am not a fan of shopping at the best of times but car shopping yuck yuck. Anyway my daughter works in the outback of Australia and has to drive a 4wheel drive diesel vehicle. We have just spent the last week of her break looking for one, thankfully she has found one. It has to be diesel as she works on the Aboriginal lands and we have a problem with the Indigenous children sniffing petrol. Believe me 4 wheel drive cars are so boring cheers Chris

Congrats! I wish I could get a deal like that. I tend to keep cars fairly long as I'm not a fancy car person, I just want reliable and since I always buy, I keep them 10 years unless I have major problems. So I'll need to go car shopping in another year or two depending on how things go. I'm good about maintenece, but I had car shopping. I also love Toyotas and Nissans, having had both and been very happy with them.

I've had my Tercel for 10 years now and it's been nothing but reliable and economical to run. She's only got 143,000 miles on her and all she needs at this point is some hoses replaced. You can't go wrong with a Toyota esp with the gas prices skyrocketing as they are.

Maybe the Honda will grow on you....esp with the A/C.
