This one rings so true. I'm still trying to figure out why, in canon, the munchers wanted Brian to relinquish his parental rights, but it was okay for him to fork over money whenever they needed it and nag Brian to make Gus the beneficiary of his insurance early on, as though he was a parent with partial/shared custody.

I had a problem with that. As far as I could see it should have been one or the other. But then again CowLip never really gave us the total back story on how the arangement was worked out in the beginning with Brian. What he agreed to and what he didn't.
You always seem to show both points of view on everything, so well.
I think that since Gus lives so far away now, they've created the problem where in order for Brian to spend time with Gus, Gus has to travel and stay with Brian... unless Brian visits Canada, which might be a better choice.

I try to show at least some of both sides. In this case though Gus is in Pittsburgh. I never included what happened in S5 in any of my fics.
OH yeah! I forgot to keep the context of your universe... I've been reading so much post-513 fic lately that it keeps being my default mindset. So yes, I was wrong... Brian created this problem all on his own by moving away from his son.
This is exactly the twisted kind of thinking they would have.
I don't know if it's twisted so much as confused. I don't think it ever occured to Lindsay that Brian might move away. Remember how freaked out she got in the show when she thought Brian was going to move to NY and have Gus visit him there?
I don't know if it's twisted so much as confused. Well I was never a fan of the lesbians to begin with. I never liked how they treated Brian or Justin to be truthful, so this rang true to me. As far as Gus was concerned it would always be about their needs/wants over Brian's so I could easily see the thought of Brian actually attempting to be a dad on his terms might be confusing to them. It would threaten their view of Brian as a drop in dad.
Yep, Lindsay as much as any of the Pitts gang only had images of "Brian f'ing Kinney." So she could see Brian as the perpetual playboy or the Brian she might have married, but it was hard to see him as loving and responsible unless it was something she goaded him into doing and then it wasn't because Brian wanted to, it was because she, his "Wendy" to his "Peter" had used her magic and talked him into it. Unfortunately this played a big part in her either IMO treating Justin like a child all those times he and Brian would fight and he came running to them or undermining the relationship altogether as in season 5. I also think a lot of Mel's vitriol against Brian was a direct result of her seeing Lindsay's behavior/attraction to Brian. Lind's fed this flames. So as you can see, I have no love for the lesbians.
And OF COURSE Mel is going to agree with you. Pardon my return to 3rd grade, but DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
On a positive note, I'm glad to see that Mikey is siding with B/J on this one - but I'm sure he understands the bounds (or lack thereof) of the Munchers' custody woes.
This was wonderfully in-character. I'm all fired up now, lol. Thanks!
Those selfish, money-grabbing, disrespectful bitches. Always with the shit-stirring! I'm still mad at them from the end of the show so I am bringing my muncher hate along with me to this world. dragging mikey hate, too, so if he screws up, i'll be right there believing it. lol

It took me an embarrasingly long time to figure that out too but she is.

Lindsay just never seemed to be happy with what she had or be able to decide exactly what she wanted.

Exactly. They can never seem to decide what they want so nothing is good enough.

And Michael standing up for them. Hmmmm.

In my world Michael is a reasonable guy.
