My mom's cookies turned out to be a Paula Deen recipe. I couldn't find it on the web site though so here it is:
1 c. butter, softened
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1t. vanilla
3 c. flour
1t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
2T. milk
1 c. chopped macadamia nuts (optional)
1/2 c. candied cherries (my mom substituted dried cherries and I think they were probably better for it)
1 1/2 c. white chocolate chips
preheat oven to 350
cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat until just combined, set aside.
Sift together the flour, soda and salt. Add mil to the butter mixture and then add the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
In another bowl combine nuts, cherries and white chocolate. Then add to batter, stirring only to blend. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake for 11-13 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
These took 11 minutes in my oven.
