I've mentioned my dad before. Some of you may recall that he is very high maintenance. Very. He's the type who would stand in front of the refrigerator and ask you to get him a glass of juice out of it. He'll w ait around until someone else is making themselves breakfast or lunch and then say, "Oh, make me one while you're at it." There is a point to my telling you this. He has an interest in model railroads. He's never done much with it but he reads the magazines etc. He builds the real thing for a living. Or at least that's one of the things they build. In any case there was an open house at the local Model Railroad association this weekend. I offered to drive him to it. Thinking both that he'd enjoy it and that maybe he could get involved and it would give him something to do besides sit around smoking and driving my mother slowly insane. So yesterday we went. It was really interesting. They had a huge layout and everything. I'm standing there checking it out when I hear my dad behind me telling this guy, "My daughter is really interested in getting involved in the hobby..." OMG. He wants me to do his hobby for him. He even offered to pay the $200 membership as my Christmas present. WTF. Um. No.
Today I was on call. It was fairly quiet so I got my Christmas trees put up and the lights put on them (no ornaments yet) and the lighted garlands hung on my picket fence. Oh and the garlands put on the chandelier. It was a productive day. Back to work tomorrow. The following week I have Thursday and Friday off (Disney!), then I have the week after Christmas off, when I think I'm having houseguests.
Is anyone else addicted to Podcasts? I am so far behind listening to them I think I need to take a cross country road trip.

lol, that about covers it.

I've listened to some podcasts, but mostly I am an Audible audiobook junkie. It's nice to "read" a bestseller and be able to rest your eyes when you stare at PC monitors for hours a day.

I like the idea of them but I got one to listen to in the car. It's divided into sections that are 2 hours long and you can't fast forward to the middle on an iPod. My commute is only 30 minutes. It didn't work out too well.

I'm not sure how to describe them because there are so many different ones. Here are a few I subscribe to:
NPR - Story of the Day
NPR - Books
Ebert and Roper movie reviews
The Lost Podcast (features cast and crew talking about each episode)
The Sims Podcast
PBS put out a series of casts about Einstein
I love them, that's only a few of the ones I subscribe to. You don't have to have an iPod, if you have iTunes you can listen (and in some cases watch them) on your computer.

As in, more than one?!

In this house I do two. One in the living room and one in the dining room. I'm lobbying for one on the porch but I don't think it's going to fly this year.

Once you're done with your trees, you will post pics of them will you? The ones you had last year were so gorgeous.

Sure, but they'll look pretty much the same. I don't go out on a limb much with Christmas!

As for those trains shows, Hon, be afraid! Be very afraid!!!!

I wouldn't mind that (except that this is FL and we have no basements.) It's the idea that I'm supposed to do it for him that kills me.

After my husband retired from teaching in the New York City schools a year ago he became a conductor on the CSX Freight Rail Road. Now he gets to play with the real thing. It must be genetic also because my son is a conductor on the New York City Subways and my other son works for the Transit Workers Union.
