Thanks for the kind thoughts. We've had our share over the years. Living in South Louisiana, it's a part of life. Of course we haven't had 6 in a year like you guys. At most we've had 2 or 3.
If it were just me, I'd probably leave, but I won't leave my animals. My parents and my immediate family are staying, and that makes me feel better about staying. My parents rode out Betsy and Camille, so I trust their opinions.
However, I'm a bit nervous. The coverage has been a bit hysterical and scary which makes me apprehensive. This seems to be the one they've been talking about for years--the direct hit. Fortunately, I'm not in New Orleans, and where I am in Terrebonne Parish flooding is not as big a concern as it is in the N.O. Metro area. My biggest concern is the high winds. I've never experienced a Category 5. The worst one I can remember is Andrew, and that was a 3 when it reached us.
I'm glad you're not in the high flood area, that's very dangerous. At least if you do get hit (which I hope you wont) it'll probably be in the daytime, which for me anyway is easier on the nerves. After that it's just getting through the aftermath with no power etc. for a long time. Be sure and check in with us as soon as you can. Be careful afterwards, lots of people end up getting hurt in the cleanup who managed just fine during the storm.
