I spoke to my friend who recommended me for the new job last night. She told me what she is getting for pay. If I can get the same then I'll be fine, it's right in the middle of the pay range I was hoping for. She also told me it took them a week to call her back in for the second interview and not to worry if I don't hear right away.

I was trying to figure out exactly how much I need to get in terms of pay, how low I could go and still make it worth leaving BB. I found this Payroll Calculator really helpful. You can put in your salary, state, any voluntary exemtions (ie: Insurance, 401K) and it will tell you your take home pay.

I stopped in the the Social Security office to apply for my replacement SS card. It almost made me want to get down on my knees and thank God for my job at BB. I may complain about it but I've enjoyed working there. And it was the perfect job for me as a student. On Sunday I'm having lunch with my former boss, my current boss and the interim boss that I had in between the two. These people have become my friends.

Something else to keep in mind: in corporate America, the raises will be better than they are in retail. So you may not start out making very much, but with ambition, you can be making more than a BB store manager makes within a few years. When I started at my present (very large insurance) company, I wasn't making much. In fact, I had a second job. But I DOUBLED my starting salary within 3 years. No more second job!

That's a good point. Retail raises are pretty much non-existant.

I did a lot of retail in my time. I have been in retail management, before I smartened up. One of my second jobs was as a cashier at Staples, nights and weekends. I found out pretty quickly that there was no such thing as a merit raise. Without either the title or the salary, I was the one with the key to the registers, access to the safe, who counted down drawers (job was boring, I needed more to do!) and got change, etc. When it was time for my 3-month review, I was told what a great job I was doing. And then I was told of my $.05/hr computer-generated raise. The same raise that the girl who stood at the register staring into space all night got. I was so pissed, I told them to keep it, and that I would no longer be doing any extra work (manager's work!!). I then started being like everyone else there: not doing *anything* that wasn't asked of me first. Pay me like everyone else, I'll start to act like everyone else.
