Time for a periodic RL update. Feel free to skip over it.
In fic news I am totally dithering over a condo for Ted. I think I finally picked one out and he better be happy with it. So there.
I've got most of my Christmas lights up. If you've been around a while you may recall we had the entire house re-landscaped this past spring, so I had a whole new set-up to work with. I think it looks nice. I do have two spots that I think need more lights though so I'll do those later in the week after work.
I went to the mall today with my mother and my sister. It was exhausting and I bought mostly stuff for myself. But it was stuff I've been needing for a while and just hadn't been able to get to so I don't feel so bad. Except the MAC. There was an annoying woman at the MAC counter and you'd think she'd never seen eye shadow before. I couldn't get what I wanted because the only sales lady was totally monopolized. I wanted to tell her, "Honey, you're working really hard to get a sale out of that woman, if you give me three seconds of attention I can tell you what I want, buy it and be out of here." Oh well. I bought a present for my BIL, a pair of jeans, a purse, a pair of reeboks, a pair of socks that I had to buy because I forgot to bring socks with me to try on the reeboks, a couple of layering tanks from Old Navy, two magazines, a present for someone on my flist, four gold chargers, four red glass plates, and twelve placecard holders. I'm having twelve for Christmas and had to fill out my place settings. Oh and a pair of open toed hose.
I've come to the conclusion that buying at Macy's is sort of like buying a car. No one ever pays sticker price. Seriously. I don't think I have ever paid full price for anything in that store. I went up to the counter with my bag ($88), my socks ($5) and my shoes ($69) and the girl rang it all up and said, "That'll be $64." I asked her if she forgot the bag and she said no, it was all on sale and she happened to have a coupon that she used for an additional 20% off. I love that.
Dropped my sister off and then came home and collapsed for a couple of hours before she came over with her boys and we had tacos and reviewed my lights.
The company Christmas Party got dropped in my lap Friday. This is so not going to happen. No place is available at this late date. Our breakfast and gift exchange should go along as planned though on the 23rd. I'm bringing my eggnog french toast. We need to bring a gender neutral gift. It's pretty much going to be booze, or maybe a gift certificate.
In other work news, I have mentioned being on call. This is something none of us like. In my dept. we watch the network for anomolies and take all the voice mail. If there is a major problem we send the on call technician out to fix it. My group doesn't get paid for being on call. We've usually gotten extra time off or whatever. The techs get paid. For quite some time now we've made it clear that that situation has to change. We may take 40 or more calls over a weekend and never even contact the techs. They get paid, we don't? I don't think so. So we gave a Dec. 1 deadline for a resolution to it and we got one. We'll only be on call for one day of a weekend and we'll get paid for it. On saturday one of us is going to work in the office. That person isn't going to work Monday. I'm going to work extra hours on Mondays to make up for that. So I'll get a couple of hours guaranteed OT every week (which is fairly significant) and I'll get paid for the on call day every three weeks. Works for me.
I'm off this Thursday and Friday and I'm going to Disney World! Yeah! Well technically I'm going Friday and coming back Saturday but that's fine with me. I may miss posting Friday and Saturday so if there are no posts those days don't worry. If I don't post Sunday
catsma better come looking for me. I'll probably be found in the Spa at the Grand Floridian.
