Very very long, real life mostly ranty whiny post.
My Week
I am so glad this week is over.
My Week
- Last Friday - my BIL called in the morning to ask if my nephew could spend the day here, as he was feeling sick. No problem, especially as I was going to be at work. So I went to work. It rained. There were only two of us. We got our asses kicked. A rainy Friday at Blockbuster is not a fun thing. I was exhausted when I got home. Oh, I forgot. I had gotten a call from my internship coordinator with a company to call and arrange my internship. Long game of phone Tag begins. My sister arrived to pick up Jack. A few minutes later we heard sirens. Not unusual, I live not far from both a fire station and a hospital. I look out the window and see people in my neighbor’s driveway. Sure enough the police arrive. She has passed away. Glad Jack was gone and missed all that.
- Weekend - Poured rain. I had a lot of trouble with a coding assignment, only to discover it’s a known bug in VB .Net.
- Monday- Phone Tag continues
- Tuesday- Phone Tag continues. Learn that the supermarket that is closest to me is going to close. Run ragged at work because we are shorthanded. They wont schedule any more people because they don’t want to pay them.
- Wednesday – Phone Tag continues. Learn we will receive second truck on Friday but they won’t schedule any more help. Find that someone has committed the cardinal sin of actually sitting in the one chair that exists at my place of work. Said chair will be thrown out. Lowly employees may no longer even go into the area where the chair is until it is thrown out. Go Ballistic. Tell boss not to assume I am joking when I tell him I’ll call OSHA on his ass.
- Wednesday evening (after I left) same boss tells visibly pregnant employee that she must produce a note from her doctor stating that she must have a chair to sit down on.
- Wednesday night toss and turn
- Thursday morning - Give up on phone tag and contact coordinator re: new company. Come to the conclusion that I can only be overworked if I actually overwork. Feel for people working shifts behind me but I am sick of busting my ass for a company that won’t give a pregnant lady a chair. Go to Best Buy with friend and spent $1300.00 of her money in about 15 minutes. None of which was her new computer, which had already been delivered to her house. Went to her house, set up said computer, scanner, printer, dual wide screen monitors and installed Sims2, which I made her buy. Went out to dinner. Somewhere in there realize that I am getting sick.
- Friday – Again, only two of us at work, plus I am sick. Third person fails to show up at work at three. Never get most things done because I am waiting on customers all day. Including one nasty bitch that almost went home wearing her DVDs up her nose. However, I don’t angst. I’m sorry the people behind me got screwed but that’s the way it is. Leave work, discover Girl Scouts in parking lot. Purchase two boxes of thin mints. Oh, and I ate my lunch sitting on the floor in the pit by the drop box grabbing bites between checking disks, because I am not allowed to go into the only semi-private spot in the store because my ass might come in contact with a chair. There is no crying in baseball and no sitting in Blockbuster.
- Friday night – My dad asks me to take him to Staples, which I so don’t want to do but I do. Am rewarded with gift of software which I really really need and which all of you may one day be grateful for – Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Arrive home and neighbor stops us to chat in driveway. She is crippled by hurricane related injury and is awaiting knee replacement. She has her dog with her. Cannot invite her inside. She is wearing fleecy jacket and sitting in scooter. I am wearing t-shirt and freezing. She is lonely so I must stay and freeze and chat with her.
- Now – Sitting in jammies in my very own room with my very own computer.
I am so glad this week is over.
