We had a fun Christmas and I got some nice presents. Once again my family failed in achieving Brithday Cake. I've pretty much given up. Next year I'm buying my own. I spent most of the day playing Prince of Persia (one of my gifts.) however I did have a few interactions with assorted members of the working public.
1: My mom bought my dad a Bose Wave Radio for Christmas, but she accidentally got the CD changer instead of the actual system. Called Bose customer service and got a very nice lady who sorted it all out in a few minutes and the correct present will be here on Monday.
2: ATT tech arrived to rewire a phone jack for us to a different number. He looked at it and said, I can do this for you another way and it will not cost you a dine. He did so and even spent time reprogramming the fax machine.
3: The handyman was scheduled to come over and fix our sprinklers today. He arrived with his partner (they are a couploe of bears who live across from my sister) and they fixed it and then refused payment, saying it was just a small job and gave them something to do.
4: I needed a new xBox controller. I went online and ordered it with in store pickup from Circuit City. Worked like a charm, didn't even have to wait in line. Just went in, signed and walked out.
Then came the disaster.
I got a call from my travel agent. She was processing my interim payment on my vacation and accidentally put it through for the entire amount. It's a seven night trip to Disney World. Staying in a Deluxe resort. With passes. I'm talking a LOT of money. I don't have that kind of money in my checking account (or anywhere else) and it was my debit card. I was freaking out. She said to call my bank. I did. Got a girl who told me the money wasn't taken out and she couldn't do anything until it was taken out. I about exploded (but was not abusive!). It's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. They would not stop it because they can only stop checks. Oh please. I asked for her boss, who told me the same thing. Then I asked for her boss and I was pretty much hysterical by this point (seriously, I was in tears), she was very nice. She called the travel agent while I was onl hold and confirmed there was nothing that could be done from that end. She is going to call me back at 9 tonight. She is going to put through an emergency credit in the amount to my checking account and then dispute the payment with Disney when it goes through. I'll feel better when it's settled but at least it looks as though I will not be financially wiped out in the next few hours.
The thing is I would never have paid that much for my vacation anyway since we split it three ways and my third was just about paid for already. Sheesh. That's what I get for not wanting to put it on a credit card I guess.
